Spatial WA’s vision to create a Digital Twin of the State is one step closer with the appointment of the technology teams.

Following a competitive process, Jacobs has been awarded the contract to deliver the Spatial Digital Twin, supported by Amristar and Terria as key subcontractors. Accenture has been awarded the contract to deliver the Next Generation Spatial Cadastre, together the two platforms will form our Advanced Spatial Digital Twin.

The procurement process was designed to ensure the selected partners could meet the State’s needs now and into the future with a platform that is secure, scalable, and interoperable.

This milestone is a key achievement for the team as the Program now moves into the ‘implementation phase’, where the technology will be customised to meet the needs of the State.

Last month at thet SES Spotlight: The Vision Edition, the Premier unveiled the government’s six major priorities for Western Australia between now and 2029.

Spatial WA supports four of the six key priorities through our initial use cases:

  • Housing – supporting planning reform by streamlining the referral assessment process of planning applications in partnership with Department of Planning Lands and Heritage.
  • Safer communities – working with Department of Fire and Emergency Services to serve and support our communities in planning, preparedness and recovery from emergencies through better insights in relation to a location.
  • Infrastructure services – led by Public Transport Authority to enable strategic and coordinated planning of critical transport infrastructure and their surrounding precincts.
  • Diversification of economy – supporting new investment opportunities into Western Australia through analysis to identify suitable land for potential projects.

Technology and data are key enablers for modern governments to deliver on strategic priorities.

The role of data and technology was also a theme at the recent AFAC Conference here in Perth where Spatial WA Program Director, Darren Mottolini and Rod Nowrojee, Use Case Lead from Department Fire Emergency Services presented on Spatial WA, befitting for the 2025 theme of ‘From local to global: leveraging systems, capability and connection’. With the increase in severity and frequency of natural disasters, the Digital Twin will be a key tool government can leverage to build resilience and support recovery.

It’s an exciting time for the State as well as the Program as the team begin to make Western Australia’s digital twin a reality.
